How a New Thermostat Can Benefit Your AC

thermostatOh great, here we go. They’re going to try and sell me equipment that I really don’t need. Typical company, right? Quite the contrary! Today’s post is about why you may want to upgrade a component of your HVAC system, but is also about how doing so is one of the most effective—and cost-effective—ways in which to boost the overall performance quality of your home cooling system. We’re not just in this for the money, after all.

Will investing in a brand new air conditioner get you even better results? Well, sure. However,  we’re well aware of the fact that not everyone has the money lying around to upgrade their entire AC—especially not when it is still functioning decently. That is why we’re focusing on the thermostat specifically. This one small component can be the key to unlocking the potential of your air conditioning in Bolingbrook, IL.

A Thermostat’s a Thermostat, Right? Right?

No, that is not really the case. If you have a very old slide or dial thermostat, then you are in dire need of an upgrade. Why? Because even when you are setting the temperature that you want, you may not actually be setting the temperature that you want! How is this possible?

Because those manual controls are notoriously inaccurate. You may have good intentions in setting the thermostat to a reasonable temperature. However, you probably aren’t setting it accurately. That leaves you less than comfortable, causing you to fiddle with the thermostat. Or you’re comfortable, but actually forcing your AC to work harder than intended. In either event, you’re paying too much to use your system as a result.

What Are My Other Options?

Look, I’ll upgrade my thermostat, but I really don’t want a bunch of bells and whistles. Well, that’s just fine. There a lot of different thermostats out there, and we can definitely help you to find the right one for your personal user preferences as well as for your particular AC system.

The most basic digital thermostat, for instance, is still a huge improvement over a manual thermostat. With this type of thermostat, you at least have the benefit of setting temperatures very accurately with a digital readout and push-button controls. Using a digital thermostat that is programmable is an even better leap into the benefits of more advanced temperature control.

A programmable thermostat lets you set up cooling programs based around your own personal schedule. That means less cooling of empty homes, reduced energy consumption, and less wear and tear on your HVAC system.

You Do Want Bells and Whistles?

A smart thermostat is the option for you, then. These are not frivolous bells and whistles, though. The features of a smart thermostat are truly incredible, allowing you to control your HVAC system remotely, to review energy reports, and to integrate other home automation devices into the fold. Not every HVAC system is going to be compatible with a smart thermostat, though, so you’ll want to work with us to find the right device for your system.
