The Great Water Heater Debate: Tank or Tankless?

Some say that variety is the spice of life. Too much variety can make for some tough decision making, though. For instance, those homeowners interested in replacing their water heaters in Bolingbrook, IL just may find that choosing the right system for their needs is a bit trickier than they’d expected. There are just so many options to choose from!

We want to help make the process a bit easier for you, so today we want to discuss some pros and cons of both the tank and the tankless water heater. Read on, and feel free to contact a member of our team with any questions that you may have.

Tank or Tankless: Which Is Superior?

The answer to this question, as you may have guessed, is: neither. It is impossible to say that any single type of water heater is inherently better than any other. It really does all come down to user preference. That being said, there are certain situations in which tank and tankless water heaters respectively shine.

If you plan to live in your home for some time, and you have the money to invest in a more expensive system upfront, then you should definitely consider using a tankless water heater. These systems are definitely more expensive than tank models, but they also operate more efficiently. Over the years, they can offset the initial difference in price with reduced energy costs. Plus, they last longer, often more than 25 years.

Tank water heaters are cheaper to purchase upfront. They are also more efficient than ever before, but there is no way in which to completely eliminate standby energy loss if you use a hot water tank. It should be noted too that tankless water heaters may be more easily overwhelmed at times when a lot of hot water is needed all at once. If you have a consistently high need for hot water in your home, a tank system and its mighty reservoir may be better.
